Tomato - 1
Cumin - 1 tspn
Turmeric powder - 1tspn
Home made chilly powder - 1tbspn
Salt as per taste

For tempering..

Mustard , curry leaves , dry red chilli - 2.no
Ghee / veg oil  - 1 tbspn

Steps For making Athikai Kootu

1.Clean moong dhal and pressure cook it for 2 or 3 whistles.

2.Wash athikai and cut it into half .. grind it coarsely or crush it using motor.

I grinded light coarsely because my son eats it only if fig dissolves in gravy .. if we crush it ll be visible for him so he may avoid eating it... small trick to make him eat healthy foods.
For others, you can also try crushing them lightly .. so that you can taste the fig separately in gravy.

3.Heat kadai with 1 tbspn of ghee / vegetable oil

4.Do the tempering with mustard, curry leaves , red chilli 2no and chopped tomato.
Saute tomato for few mins.

5.Add the crushed athikai and saute for few mins.

6.Add turmeric powder , salt.

7.Add half cup of water , add chilly powder and let it boil for 2 to 3 mins.

8.Add cooked moong dhal and stir it. Cook it for 5 mins in low medium.

9.Grind the coconut with 1 spoon of cumin and little water.

10. Add this coconut cumin paste to athikai moong dhal gravy. Cook it for 2 mins.

Serve it with rice and Spicy side dish like potato fry :)
