பச்சை பயிறு தொக்கு / Pachai payaru curry (Green gram)


Pachai Payaru / Green gram Curry is a special side for chappathi. My dad's daily dinner is chappathi, he never complaints about the same kind of side dish daily but i really got bored cooking the same kind of kurmas , tomato curry for chappathi . So i started exploring different sides for chappthi & i came across this awesome healthy side for chappathi. The mind blowing fact about this Green gram is , it is considered as the healthy weight loss food and it also helps to reduce the high cholestral in our blood system.. When health factors comes with yummy dishes, who says NoOoOo.. :) Try this gravy and have a healthy life !!



 Ingredients 

Pachai Payaru / Green gram - 1/2 cup
Tomatoes - 3
Chilly powder - 1 tspn
Coriander powder - 2 tspn
Cumin powder - 1/2 tspn
Garam masala powder - 1 tspn
Curry leaves - few
Coriander leaves - few
Mustard - 1 tspn
Cumin seeds - 1 tspn

To Grind

Onion - 2
Ginger - a coin size
Garlic cloves - 4
Green chillies - 2




Method

Soak green gram for at least 4 hours.
Clean the green gram and pressure cook it for 3 whistles.

Grind the ingredients in " To grind " section " Without " adding water.

Put the tomatoes in boiling water & wait for 3 mins. switch off the stove.
Remove tomatoes & place it in cold water.
Peel the tomato skin.
Grind the tomatoes to paste.

Heat a pan with 2 tbspn of oil 
Drop mustard , cumin seeds & curry leaves
Add the onion paste and saute for 2 mins or until the raw smell of onion comes out.
Add the tomato paste & saute for 1 min.
Add cooked green gram to this with half or 1 cup of water ( as per your consistency need)

Add all spices turmeric , chilly powder , coriander powder , garam masala , cumin powder.
Add Salt & mix well.

Keep it in low flame for 10 to 15 mins.
Finally garnish with coriander leaves.

Serve hot with chappathi or idly.
